BANGKOK FABRIC MARKETS

I was lucky enough to take a trip to Thailand recently and one of my must-do itinerary items was to explore the fabric and tailoring scene in the country.

One of the highlights was visiting the home of Thai Silk Company, Jim Thompson's House. Set in a stunning traditional house, it was really fascinating to learn more about the country's famous textile history.

I also had the pleasure of gaining a personal experience with a few local tailors, where I discovered incredibly skilled artisans. Despite time constraints, I was amazed to have a dress made to utter perfection within a matter of days.

One of my absolute favourite shopping days was spent at the Phahurat Market in Bangkok. Known for its textiles, the market boasts street-front stores and a multi-storey mall filled with countless fabric stores. The range and quantity of fabrics available far exceeded my expectations, with everything from traditional to modern and all kinds of fixtures and trims available too.

Now that I’ve discovered the incredible fabric offering of Thailand, I won’t need any other excuse to go back again sometime soon.
