PROTOTYPE PROJECT

My very first prototype project during fashion school was a labour-intensive journey of learning and applying new techniques, which culminated in the creation of my white cape dress.

Crafted as a two-piece set which included an over cape and an under dress, this garment was the product of a process that included hand-drawn sketches, digital technical drawings, pattern making, costings and finally, construction.

The cape boasts a dipped hemline, complemented by contrast stitching and a frayed edge trim. Over 30 self-covered buttons, created by hand, and a frill attachment completes the back of the cape. Meanwhile, the sleeveless under dress features a cinched waist with three rows of elastic, a high round neckline and a maxi length hemline.

Selected to be featured at the end-of-semester runway show, this piece definitely fills me with pride and I consider it to be a physical manifestation of my growth and development throughout my studies.
