SPLISH SPLASH

My final fashion school assessment was a challenging yet rewarding project: creating my first swimwear collection. Stretch sewing, essential for swimwear, proved to be more difficult than working with woven fabrics, requiring specialised machinery and a different approach to handling the fabric.

Another first for me was creating and printing my own textile. The lycra used for the swimsuits featured a print that I designed, adding a unique touch to the collection.

The designs for my swimwear collection were inspired by the concept of 'Masked Ball,' chosen from a selection of trend forecasted concepts from the French agency, Promostyl. This concept represented a customer profile who was unapologetically loud, had a progressive worldview, found freedom in creative self-expression and was liberated from traditional thinking.

My goal was to create designs that reflected this bold and expressive spirit. I incorporated 3D flower busts and a gradient rainbow print to make a statement. The corset tie back on the one-piece added a final touch of flair, perfectly suited for the customer, whom the teachers referred to as Ava, on her hypothetical trip to Fiji.

Shoutout to my dream models Paz, Coral and Cassandra for being the stars of my swimsuits!
